A Quick Overview of my Upcoming YA Fantasy Book!
My young adult fantasy novel Wings of Ember is the first book in a planned series.
The story centers on a pair of cousins and their ragtag group of friends as they investigate some strange happenings in their city.
Book Blurb
A string of disappearances, stolen magic, and a looming insurgence; the city of Eldramere is at its breaking point. At the center of it all is the Umbral Guard, an elite force that controls the city’s magic with an iron grip.
After watching arcane forces tear their family apart, cousins Dayne and Nalada trained their whole lives to join. Dayne wants to make amends for the past; Nalada aims to carve her way to leadership. Both aspire to dedicate their lives to preventing further magical tragedies.
However, upon receiving an invitation, the celebrations are cut short when their childhood friend is spirited away while magic is pilfered right form the city’s vaults. Worse yet, a growing militia is openly protesting the Umbral Guard’s restrictions.
As secrets and intrigue push Dayne and Nalada on diverging paths, their city threatens to implode around them. To find their friend, both must confront the past and remember the Umbral Guard’s first rule: magic is fleeting, but its impact endures.
Setting
Wings of Ember is set in the world of Terideal, which is inspired by early 20th century technology with zeppelins, locomotives, steamboats, tramlines, and early automobiles.
The bulk of the story takes place in the city of Eldramere, the capital city of the mountainous nation of Tharen, one of the world’s wealthiest countries due to its vast network of resource rich mines.
Magic is strictly controlled by an elite force called the Umbral Guard, who also investigate all magical crimes in Tharen.
As powerful as the Umbral Guard may be, that doesn’t stop the occasional smuggler from selling pilfered magic within the vast labyrinth of old tunnels beneath the capital’s cobbled streets.

Wings of Ember should be set to come out this autumn! I’ll be sharing some more updates about its upcoming release and share some tidbits about the world of Terideal as well as the band of colorful characters who call it home.
